Player Tiering & Evaluation
2011 SWAT Evaluation Schedule
Peewee Tier 1 Open Tryout – August 30, 2011
Atom and Peewee Goalie Skills Evaluations – September 3, 2011
Atom Skills Evaluations – September 4, 2011
- Evaluation drills are the first segment of a four step process in establishing teams
for our Novice and Atom players. The primary purpose of these sessions is to
formulate a measurable, comparative benchmark in establishing groupings of
players for the initial evaluation games. As noted in Section 2-2-1 in the SWAT
Player Evaluation Policy there will be a series of age appropriate drills
designed in such as manner as to allow for a fair and consistent measurement of
each player's abilities. It is important to note that each player in Novice and
Atom will be asked to complete a similar set of timed drills designed to ensure
fairness and equity throughout the entire process. Note, regardless of what
session each player is initially assigned to,
all drills will remain identical from one ice time to the next.
- Each session will consist of a series
of full ice forward skating, backward skating
and puck carrying drills. Pylons will be placed at various locations on the ice
with each player asked to complete a similar activity before moving on to the
next in a series of drills throughout the process. There will be a total of
approximately 6 drills each player will be required to complete. The players
will be provided a brief warm up skate before commencing their session.
- Upon completion of the evaluation session the results will be
tabulated for all drills and will then be used in grouping players for the
initial evaluation game. Please check the SWAT website for your player's next
scheduled ice time following both the evaluation skills session as well as
subsequent evaluation games throughout the process.
