Is your son or daughter looking to meet new friends and learn new skills in a very positive setting? SWAT welcomes new players (ages 4, 5, & 6) into our Initiation (IN 1A & 2A) hockey programs.

Learn-to-Skate Program

  • Focus on learning to skate in a hockey environment
  • Taught by a proper hockey skating instructor
  • One practice each week (likely Saturday or Sunday afternoon at local rink)
  • No formal hockey games
  • Full hockey equipment and sticks required
  • SWAT team sweater provided
  • Parents are welcome (and often needed) to be on ice
  • Mostly 5 year-olds with some 4 and 6 year-olds
  • Begins in mid-October and ends in mid-March

Half-Ice Hockey Program

Focus on continuing to improve skating while beginning to learn to play hockey

  • Teams of 10 to 14 players will be made and appropriate coaches assigned
  • One practice and one game each week (likely Saturday and Sunday afternoons at local rinks)
  • Full hockey equipment and sticks required
  • SWAT team jersey provided
  • Coaching assistance welcome
  • Mostly 5 and 6 year-olds
  • Attempts will be made to keep friends with friends (if requested)
  • Initial player evaluation in September to select equal and fair teams
  • Begins in mid-October and ends in late-March

Some reasons why you might choose to play for SWAT

  • Local ice — All ice times are in arenas within the SWAT area.
  • Play with other kids from your neighborhood/school. SWAT is the community hockey program for kids living near your school.
  • No bingos to work.
  • Fundraising events include the infamous “Halloween Howler” — an evening just for parents.

For The Good of The Game

SWAT Hockey would like to remind all Players, Coaches and Parents of the For The Good of The Game pledge that must be followed throughout the Hockey Season.
